Mala Jayatilleke is attached to the STEM Department as an adjunct faculty member since August, 2013. She earned her Bachelor’s in Agriculture at Peradeniya University, Sri Lanka in 1993 and Master’s in Agriculture at Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Sri Lanka in 1997. In 2003, she earned her Doctorate in Horticulture from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria. She has been teaching in several Universities in Sri Lanka for over 10 years. In 2005, she moved to USA and joined Donald Danforth Plant Science Center as a Postdoctoral Research Associate to optimize Cassava tissue culture system and genetic transformation protocols. After completing 31/2 years of research work in USA, she went back to Sri Lanka and worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Botany, University of Kelaniya (2010-12). In 2012, she joined JR Simplot Company to work on Potato transformation.
Being a new resident of Idaho, she enjoys exploring the abundant vegetation and the beauty of the Idaho landscape. She lives with her husband and her son.
