CWI Tutoring Services

Tutoring Services offers free tutoring services to all currently enrolled students.  These services complement classroom instruction by working with students to achieve their course goals.  Services include drop-in visits for math, sciences, writing, foreign language, certified technical programs, and more.  The subjects tutored at these sites vary between semesters, but most services are available at a variety of sites from a variety of tutors.  Most tutors that work with Tutoring Services are students recommended by faculty because of their dedication and high grade point average and excel in the subjects they tutor.  Tutors can work with students to help them understand coursework and prepare for exams.  Tutoring Services also offers tutor-led study groups and academic skill building workshops throughout the semester.

Tutors for Business, Economics, Biology, Chemistry and other classes are available depending on their class schedules. Additionally, there will always be a math Tutor on duty, and most of the tutors have other subjects they tutor.  Tutoring Center HOSTs can assist in determining when tutors for other courses are available.

What to bring:

The most important thing to bring to your session is an openness to work! Other things that help make your time successful are your assignment, any class notes or course texts that pertain to the assignment, and any work you have done so far.

Limits to how often you can use the Tutoring Center:

Unlimited, you are welcome in the lab for drop-in tutoring whenever we are open.  We recommend students complete their homework in the tutoring center and get immediate help if they have questions.   Online and 1-on-1 tutoring is limited to one hour per student per week.

Cancelling appointments in advance:

You should log on to the scheduler and cancel as soon as you know you cannot make your appointment. Appointments MUST be canceled at least one hour before the appointment is due to begin. If you miss three appointments in a semester, you will be blocked form using the online scheduler to make appointments.

    For Faculty

    What the Tutoring Center Does

Our main goal is to help students to develop their own problem solving skills they can use in any situation.

    • We engage students in their education. Our tutors are experienced in asking questions that can prompt students to find the solutions on their own.
    • We do not give answers or help with anything labeled quiz or test. What we do is help students build the tools   talk with writers about patterns of error and help them find the tools they need to fix their own errors.

How to Make the Tutoring Center a Part of Your Class

    Classroom Visits

If you would like your class to utilize the services of the Writing Center, we suggest hosting a classroom presentation. One of our consultants or the Coordinator will visit your class and give a short presentation about the Tutoring and Writing Center. Your students are more likely to visit the Tutoring Center after seeing one of our presentations and being introduced to our services. Alternatively, show our intro videos to your class—they are available on this site in the sidebar.

To arrange a visit please email us at [email protected]

    Link to Us

Please include our website address and resources on your assignment sheet and in your Blackboard materials. Students can schedule an appointment online.

    Student Proof your Assignments

We would be happy to give feedback for fine-tuning student assessments so they are interpreted the way you want.

We can assist with the Video Lab (NCAB 209E) for creating videos or online classes.
