The United States Government, through the Department of Education, has made funds available for several federal grant programs. Federal grants are awarded to students with financial need. All students are urged to apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is used to determine a student’s need and eligibility for financial aid, including grants.
Scholarships are a type of aid to help student pay for their education and typically offered via state, institutional or other outside sources. Like grants, they do not have to be repaid. Awards are available for students who are interested in particular fields of study, who are members of underrepresented groups, who live in certain areas, who demonstrate financial need, and/or who demonstrate academic achievement.
