Sr. Coordinator, Dual Credit & College Readiness

Prior to coming to CWI, Shannon gained most of her customer service and professional skills through residential and commercial real estate.  Shannon’s experience in working with fast growing companies provided opportunities to take on new challenges that she has been able to apply to her current position within CWI’s Dual Credit Department.  Since joining Dual Credit, Shannon has helped facilitate a fast-expanding dual credit program, bringing college opportunities to an increasing number of high school students across the state.

In her spare time, Shannon loves to spend time with her daughter, son and husband of 17 years and loves participating in a wide array of outdoor activities in Idaho!

Emily Newkirk is a Coordinator for Dual Credit.  She works directly with high school students, parents, and faculty interested in the Dual Credit program.  She attended Boise State University where she obtained her Bachelor’s and Masters of Social Work.  After college Emily worked for several non-profits in the Treasure Valley, but always found herself drawn back to education.  She has worked at CWI in a variety of roles for the last 4 years. Outside of work Emily enjoys spending time with family and friends. She spends as much time as possible outside, hiking, camping, running, fishing and reading.

Steve Jenkins joins the College of Western Idaho staff as a College Readiness Project and Dual Credit Coordinator. Jenkins comes to the College of Western Idaho from Community Outreach Counseling in Nampa, ID, where he served as the Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator. He previously worked as a graduate assistant instructor at Missouri State University where he taught a communications course. Jenkins earned a Master’s degree in Communication from Missouri State University in 2013 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Reinhardt University in 2011.

Overall, his greatest accomplishment is simply living and working toward writing his life’s legacy. He lives with his wife, two boys, and two dogs.

Administrative Assistant III

Kathy is the Administrative Assistant to the Dual Credit Department.  She has played an integral part in developing registration and new hire processes in addition to helping students and parents resolve a number of issues.  She has worked at the College of Western Idaho since 2011.  Previously she worked for the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, OR, in the Admission Department.

Outside of work she enjoys being outdoors walking, hiking or riding bikes.  She keeps busy with her family and her grandchildren’s activities.

She was born and raised in Idaho but moved to Oregon in the 70’s. She says there is no place like Idaho and is so grateful to be back home.

Coordinator, Transition

I am originally from Oregon, born & raised. I lived in a small town and stayed close to home while I attended Walla Walla Community College for my Associates of Arts degree. I continued my education at Eastern Oregon University where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. After graduating from college I moved to Idaho where I had visited a lot and also have family.

I’m excited for my new journey with the College of Western Idaho. I originally began my employment at CWI in the beginning of April as an administrative assistant for the Business Office. I am now one of the Transition Coordinators working with Dual Credit and Professional Technical Education. I’m so excited for this new chapter in my career and what the year will bring.

I enjoy TV shows to relax after work. I listen to music as much as possible. And I am an animal lover, I have a pug and a golden retriever. You can find us on long walks on the weekends exploring new areas around Idaho. I am a water girl, I swam competitively for 10 years and I love being anywhere in, or around water. I’m slightly OCD when it comes to organization & cleaning. And although some people in my life might say I have a large problem, really I don’t - I can fully admit I am a shopaholic.
