Phlebotomy for Healthcare Workers

Expand your professional healthcare skills by learning phlebotomy skills and techniques needed for safe and successful blood or specimen collection at College of Western Idaho (CWI).

This class will educate and prepare you with the knowledge and skills for performing phlebotomy tasks in outpatient, emergency, or in-patient settings. You will learn the basic knowledge, and practice, venipuncture techniques through this class. Content includes and overview of the role and function of phlebotomists and contains information about safety procedures, equipment, and point-of-care testing and special procedures.

Your learning experience will include four weeks of classroom and hands on training led by qualified and trained instructors.

  • Identify supplies and equipment used for routine venipuncture techniques using syringes, Vacutainer method, butterfly techniques, and capillary punctures
