John Nordstrom is the Department Chair of Business at College of Western Idaho.  He was one of the original faculty at CWI inception in January 2009 and besides teaching Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, and Business Communication, he has served as the Department Chair of Business, Economics, and Mathematics, on various committees for online instruction, and the CWI Curriculum Committee.

Nordstrom received a Bachelor of Arts in English-Education in 1994 and a Masters of Business Administration in 2001 from Northwest Nazarene University where he also was an adjunct instructor in the business program from 2002 to 2009. 

His career in education and business includes teaching secondary English and drama, commissioning a steel mill, marketing and management consultation with worldwide technology consortiums, serving as an international trade specialist for the Idaho Department of Commerce, and various journalistic, copy writing, and technical writing positions.  Teaching college students about business and the economy has been the highlight of his varied career.

Nordstrom grew up in Kelso, Washington and is a lifelong Seattle Mariners fan.  He and his wife, Lisa, live in southeast Boise and love living in Idaho, biking the Greenbelt, and attending Boise State football games.

When Russ Keely stepped on CWI’s campus the summer semester of 2009, he was homeless, unemployed, couldn’t drive, divorced, dealing with sobriety, on probation, and penniless. “I was scared to flipping death when I stepped on campus. I wasn’t only unemployed, I was unemployable.” Now, two years after graduation with a Business-General AA, “CWI took me from the lowest point of my life to a respectable life. Now I have a job, a car, my own place, and a life.”
