MEDIA ADVISORY – As the College of Western Idaho (CWI) continues to expand its facilities to accommodate a growing student population, the need for shuttle service between its campuses and facilities in Nampa becomes more urgent and necessary.

Those transportation needs are being addressed with the new Route 55 CWI Shuttle, which resumes operations on Monday, January 21, 2013. The new route is the result of a partnership between CWI and Valley Regional Transit (VRT). The route began operating Nov. 26, 2012, but went on hiatus during the winter semester break.

The Route 55 CWI Shuttle provides weekday service to four CWI campuses in Nampa – the Canyon County Center, The Micron Center for Professional Technical Education, the Aspen Classroom Building and the Academic Building on the Nampa Campus site.

“We are excited about providing this additional service for CWI,” said Mary Barker, VRT Service Development Manager. “It will fill a transportation need and will greatly enhance the existing valleyride bus service to and from the main campus in Nampa.”

“Many of our students attend classes at multiple campus locations,” notes CWI President Bert Glandon. “Providing transportation between the locations supports our mission to be accessible and VRT was a natural partner in providing reliable and safe means for the CWI community.”

The route is open to the public. CWI students, faculty and staff are able to ride the shuttle bus for free upon securing a pass from One Stop Student Services. The shuttle will not operate during semester breaks.
