Campus Development

College of Western Idaho is the dedicated community college in western Idaho providing affordable access to higher education that is driven by the communities of Ada and Canyon County. Since its first class offering in 2009, CWI’s enrollment has grown to now serve over 20,000 students a year through academic and workforce training. To keep up with the demand for an educated and career ready workforce, the College has assumed leased spaces in business complexes that cost more than $2 million a year. These locations are not ideal for long-term sustainability and program growth.

To continue to help bridge the skills gaps of individuals and businesses of Ada and Canyon County, CWI is planning for the future by investing in permanent campus facilities in Boise and Nampa along with robust online tools. This development will ensure educational offerings are accessible to students throughout our community.

Ada Campus in Boise

Ada Campus in Boise

CWI has purchased 10 acres of land easily accessible to the east end of the valley at the corner of Whitewater Park Blvd. and Main Street, just off the I-84 connector, in Boise. Due to the smaller land size and urban surrounding, CWI’s Boise location will be a more compact, multi-story campus. Last fall, the College contracted with CTA Architects Engineers to develop a conceptual campus design. More than 300 community members, students, faculty and staff shared their thoughts on development which resulted in three early concepts for consideration. Based on the community insight, CWI will complete additional design and programming work. The timeframe for campus development is dependent on completion of the programming and identifying funding.
