Accreditation

The College of Western Idaho delivers college credit instruction, certificates and degrees through its memorandum of understanding with the College of Southern Idaho (CSI).  CSI is accredited through The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities is a regional postsecondary accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

CSI is partnering with CWI in order to assist CWI in meeting standards for accreditation and to help CWI offer college credit instruction, certificates, and degrees while seeking accredited status. Beginning Fall 2014, credits, certificates and degrees earned at CWI appear on CWI transcripts and are transferable to four year institutions, subject to the specific policies of those institutions. CSI provides oversight for the production of CWI transcripts, as these credits, certificates and degrees still fall under the College of Southern Idaho’s accreditation by NWCCU.

On January 11, 2012, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) granted CWI Candidacy for Accreditation status at the associate degree level.  Candidacy is not accreditation nor does it ensure eventual accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is a status of affiliation with the Commission which indicates that the institution has achieved initial recognition and is progressing toward accreditation. Until separate accreditation is granted, CWI will continue to deliver college credit instruction, certificates and degrees through its contract with the College of Southern Idaho (CSI).
