Am I ready?
How do I know if I'm ready to take the GED test?
- You have to be able to read, compute, interpret information and express yourself in writing on a level comparable to that of the top 60% of graduating high school seniors.
- If you are uncertain whether you have the level of skill needed to successfully complete the test, College of Western Idaho offers free classes to help you improve your skills in reading, math and language through ABE. These classes are free to students 16 years and older who are not currently enrolled in high school. For more information about how the ABE program can assist you in preparing for your GED click here.

Official GED practice tests
- The GED tests are a rigorous battery of five tests that take more than seven and a half hours to complete, although you may take from one to five tests per day depending on the testing schedule. Regardless of your ability, you'll be more certain to perform your best if you know what to expect before the testing day arrives.
- You have the opportunity to take official GED practice tests before you take the GED. By taking these tests, you can find out quickly which test you are ready to take and which subject areas you may need to study before testing. Students currently enrolled in the ABE program may take the practice tests with a recommendation from the instructor.
