I am an Outreach Advisor at the College of Western Idaho. I help students learn about the admissions process and apply to the college. My career background is in education and disability support services. As an Outreach Advisor, I am able to assist students pursue all of their higher education goals!
I was born in England but raised in Idaho and attended both the College of Southern Idaho and Boise State University. During college I was involved in Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and the Teacher Education Association. Outside of work I enjoy reading a good book, watching TV shows, exercising, and spending time with my husband, family, and friends.
My name is Oster Hernandez and I am originally from Lamont, California. I moved to Nampa, Idaho in February, 1994 and have lived here ever since. Growing up, going to college never crossed my mind. After high school I went on with my life working at different types of places that got me by, but never was what I really wanted to do. At age 35 I decided to take my life in a different direction and do something different, which was go to college. Four years later I found myself walking down the aisle and graduating from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications.
The hard work, experience, and knowledge that I acquired at the university gave me the courage and strength to go after a career that would help others do the same thing I did. Today I work at the College of Western Idaho and have been here since February 2, 2014. I started out in the Assessment & Testing Center and now I am a proud member of the CWI Outreach Advising team! I am excited to continue my passion for helping people and look forward to connecting with people in my community. My goal is to encourage and motivate students from all walks of life to go after their dreams and achieve academic success at the College of Western Idaho!
Hello! My name is Nikki Houston and I have been with the College of Western Idaho since August of 2011. I started as the Administrative Assistant for the Foundation department until October of 2013 when I transferred to the Facilities Planning and Management department. Before working in higher education, I worked as a preschool teacher for ten years and had the time of my life. I worked my way through college and received a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication/Journalism from BSU in 2010. Recently I decided to pursue an Associate Degree in Sociology from CWI. I then plan on transferring to BSU to eventually obtain a second Bachelor's Degree. Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with my two-year-old son, Logan, who keeps me extremely busy! I also love spending time with family, especially my three younger brothers. I love playing softball and going hiking. I am slightly obsessed with the BSU Broncos and Kellen Moore (Go BRONCOS!); and I’m also a huge fan of "Scandal." I love participating in community events such as Race for the Cure, Women Fitness Celebration, Buddy Walk, and I’m passionate about the No More campaign. My goal is to inspire, encourage, and motivate students to pursue their dreams, to never give up no matter how impossible it may seem, and to make every day amazingly beautiful.
Hello! I’m Melissa Mallory. I’m an Army Veteran that received an AS with Pikes Peak Community College and a BS is sociology and psychology from Colorado State University. I’m currently working on a MA in psychology. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new!
Working in education and with people is my passion. I worked with the Fort Carson Army Education Center for three years while in Colorado and spent an additional three years working for military programs with Pikes Peak Community College. Converting military transcripts to civilian education as well as working with soldiers and family members was my primary responsibility. My background also includes almost three years of teaching vocational classes and life skills to adults with developmental disabilities. I am sure I learned more from them than they did from me.
Outside of work, I have a very active family. We are normally found at soccer games, karate classes, diving practice and meets, softball games, motocross races, bike riding and hiking as well as other sporting activities. In my personal time, I enjoy traveling, reading and exploring other cultures. The military allowed me to travel and experience places I only dreamed of and education helped navigate and bridge that path to a better understanding of the world we live in.
I look forward to working with you in your educational endeavors. Reach for the stars and remember, “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best." - Tim Duncan (NBA MVP)
