As a student at College of Western Idaho (CWI), financial aid options are available to assist you with educational costs. Explore your options, and learn about the types of aid available to find the best fit for your needs. 

Federal Financial Aid

In order to be eligible for federal grants, scholarships, work-study, or loan opportunities, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit Applying for Aid for steps to apply, managing your financial aid, maintaining aid, and more.

  • Complete your FAFSA and submit all required documentation by this date in order for funding to be available for the first scheduled disbursement date of Fall 2023 semester. View the Academic Calendar

  • Grants

    Federal grant funds are available through the Department of Education and awarded to students based on financial need as determined by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Grants do not need to be repaid. 

    Three types of federal grants are available: 

    • Federal Pell Grant
    • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
    • Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant

  • Scholarships

    Scholarships are available to students based on a variety of criteria including, but not limited to: fields of study, members of underrepresented groups, residency in certain areas, and demonstrated financial need. Scholarships do not have to be repaid. 

    Completion of a single application at CWI will provide you with automatically-generated scholarship matches, including over 10,000 external scholarship opportunities, allowing you to self-select scholarships of interest.

  • Work-Study

    Work-study opportunities allow you to get a head start on your future success while earning money to pay for your education. Part-time, hourly work-study positions on campus and in the community are not only a financial benefit but can help you gain valuable work experience and develop skills to help you throughout your college experience and beyond!

  • Student & Parent Loans

    Should funding through grants, scholarships, work-study, and other forms of aid not cover the entire cost of your education, you may consider borrowing funds through a student or parent loan. As loans must be repaid, they are a big commitment and should be considered carefully.

  • Military & National Service Benefits

    Educational assistance is available to eligible students currently serving in the military, veterans, and their dependents. Assistance is also available though AmeriCorps, a civilian national service program, who rewards participants with grants to pay for college.   • CWIDeal Boost

    Boost your college savings up to $500 per semester with a CWIDeal Boost, a partnership between CWI and the IDeal-Idaho College Savings program. CWIDeal Boost offers incentives to students and families saving for college through IDeal, including a matching scholarship opportunity for qualifying CWI students.
