Scholarships

I am already receiving financial aid and/or another non-CWI scholarship. Can I still apply for a scholarship?

Yes. You can and should apply for both financial aid and scholarships. If you are awarded a CWI scholarship, One Stop Student Services will be notified and any adjustments to your current financial aid package will be made accordingly. In most cases, any adjustments result in a reduced amount of student loans borrowed.

Many scholarships list financial need as a criterion, how is financial need determined?

Your financial need is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and your cost of attendance at CWI. Your signature on the CWI online application permits the Foundation Office to obtain financial need information from One Stop Student Services.

Can I apply for a CWI scholarship if I am working toward a certificate and not a degree?

Yes. Applicants may be seeking either a degree or certificate unless otherwise noted in the scholarship criteria.

Can I apply for CWI scholarships if I am participating in a Business Partnerships/Workforce Development apprenticeship program?

Yes. There are several CWI scholarships directed to students in Business Partnerships / Workforce Development apprenticeships programs. The scholarship application questionnaire will ask specific questions regarding your program of study to identify your eligibility for these scholarships. Please enter the last 6 digits of your student ID when completing the application.

I'm enrolled as a part-time student, can I still receive a scholarship?

Certain CWI scholarships are designated specifically for part-time students. Part-time is defined as less than 12 credit hours per semester. (Note: All CWI scholarships require that you are enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester.)

I am not an honor student, will I still be considered for a scholarship?

Yes. Many CWI scholarships don't require a specific grade point average (GPA). However, it's important to remember that all are competitive. CWI has established a universal requirement that all applicants who are currently enrolled at CWI must meet or exceed CWI academic requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress. (See CWI Catalog or Student Handbook for more information).

How are scholarship recipients selected?

Applications are reviewed by a committee. All decisions are final.

Can I be awarded more than one scholarship per semester?

Yes, though multiple awards are not typical. The scholarship committee will usually try to assist as many students as possible. Some donors may request that their scholarship not be awarded to a student receiving other scholarship assistance.

May I use my CWI Foundation scholarship at another school?

No. CWI scholarships are ONLY for use at CWI. CWI scholarships may not be used for dual enrollment and are non-transferable.

What types of classes may I take using my scholarship?

Most CWI credit courses are eligible. Professional/personal development classes are not included. There are also several scholarships for apprenticeships programs offered by Business Partnerships / Workforce Development.

How will I know if I've been awarded a scholarship?

The selection process will take approximately six weeks. Notifications of non-award will not be sent until all awards have been notified and officially accepted.

Some scholarships have a different application deadline or indicate "deadline to be announced". Do I need to submit a separate application for those scholarships?

No, you may apply for all scholarships with one application. However, recipients of scholarships with alternate deadlines will not be announced until after their respective deadlines.

Which email address should I provide on the online application?

Please use a valid email address that you monitor regularly. Scholarship notifications will be sent to the email address you provide and you are responsible for the timely response to requests sent to the address you provide.

Does the amount I receive in scholarships affect my eligibility for financial aid?

Yes. Scholarships are applied directly to your student account through One Stop Student Services. Your unmet need will be recalculated and, if necessary, your aid package will be adjusted. In most cases, any adjustment will only affect that amount of student loans borrowed.

I applied for scholarships last year; do I need to reapply?

Yes. Scholarship applications are reviewed and awards are determined on an annual basis. Prior applications are not retained for evaluation in later years.
