Visual Language Club (V.L.C.)

The purpose of Visual Language Club or V.L.C. is to create an environment of openness and acceptance to all seeking to learn more about signing (particularly American Sign Language or ASL) and deaf culture, and to provide information on resources that can help achieve these ends. Both ASL and non-ASL CWI students are welcomed to join.

Current V.L.C. officers (Fall 2013 - Spring 2014):

Advisor: Prof. Julie Melton

President: Amy Harbin

Vice President: Cassandra Lynch (Fall 2013 only)

Treasurer: Rachel Fehrnstrom

Secretary: Dan Kinney

Meet Times for the Fall 2013 Semester:

The VLC club has mandatory meetings that occur on a monthly basis that involve club officers discussing changes in club policy, any and all events that involve VLC participation, and other news relevant to the VLC and ASL students. The time and location of these meets are subject to change, but so far this semester they have occurred on the 1rst Thursday of every month at 5:30pm in room 1201 or 1210 at the CWI Micron Center in Nampa. Though these meetings mostly involve club officers, any student is welcome to sit in on the meetings.

For the Fall semester, Amy Harbin (VLC President) will be available every Friday (with the exception of 11/22/13)  at the tutoring center on the 2nd floor in the CWI Academic Building to any student seeking to practice/study ASL or learn more about deaf culture. If I'm unable to attend, an update will be posted concerning the cancelation of VLC study sessions. Study sessions for the spring semester are to be determined.

V.L.C Emailing List:

Currently any and all VLC news and updates are regularly sent out via the President's email address: [email protected]. If you are interested about the club and have a question (or if you want to be signed up to the emailing list) please contact the President at either [email protected] or [email protected]
