CWI Students Explore Teaching through IDoTeach

Published: December 5, 2016

This semester, students from the College of Western Idaho (CWI) have begun to explore what it takes to be a teacher. These students are enrolled in IDoTeach classes at CWI, which are designed to encourage Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math majors to consider careers in teaching. Thanks to opportunities at Hunter Elementary School, Siena Elementary School, Chaparral Elementary School, Victory Middle School, and Falcon Ridge Charter School our students gained vital exposure to the profession which will inform their decision on whether or not to continue pursuing this career path.

Specifically, students in my two IDoTeach courses, EDUC 101 and 102, are invited not only to observe exemplary teachers in local schools but also to design and teach two lessons of their own. These lessons are aligned with an inquiry-based instructional method that was honed by the UTeach program, currently celebrating its 20th year of operation, at the University of Texas at Austin.

The CWI Education Department would like to thank all of the teacher mentors and administrators who support this invaluable learning opportunity for our IDoTeach students.
