Program Overview
Does designing and creating with computer models interest you? Well, look no further than College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Drafting Technology program to get on track to your new career. In this program, you will learn to design practical projects with the latest 3D-modeling software. Our outstanding instructors will provide you with an enjoyable environment to develop and hone your skills. This program tends to fill fast, so make sure you apply early and don’t miss out.
What will you learn to do?
- Translate ideas and designs into complete and accurate working plans
- Prepare mechanical, architectural, civil, and structural drawing using both conventional and computer-assisted techniques
- Understand general engineering procedures
- Utilize the most recent AutoCAD skills
- Operate the latest computer hardware and software
- Apply communications, physics, and applied math skills in the workplace
- Develop workplace interactive communications
- Use reference catalogs to identify specific information such as parts and manufacturers
- Write a resume, search for a job, and interview effectively
- Apply customer service skills to relationships with clients, engineers, and shop foremen

- Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) – approximately two years
- Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC) – approximately 16 months
- Technical Certificate (TC) – approximately one year
What else should I know?
An average day is divided between working with clients and working on the computer.
