Adult Basic Education

College of Western Idaho (CWI) Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a free program dedicated to providing you with opportunities to learn the basic academic and English language skills needed to meet your goals in the workplace and the community. ABE is designed to improve the educational level of adults, out-of-school youth, and non-English speaking persons in our 10-county service area of Southwest Idaho. You may also utilize ABE services to prepare for the GED test and college-level classes.

Why Adult Basic Education?

There are many reasons for you to consider ABE. We can help prepare you for and administer GED testing. Through ABE you can also improve basic skills, upgrade skills for work, or obtain a better job. All that's required is taking that first step. How quickly you reach your goals will depend on how much effort you put into achieving them. We're here to help you do that. There is no charge to students for these programs.

Eligibility

Eligible students are adults over 16 years of age seeking to prepare for life, work, or post-secondary education with skill levels below the college level.

Community Learning Center

The Community Learning Center is a place where anyone can stop in to ask questions and learn about the ABE program. At the Community Learning Center, you'll have the ability to meet with an ABE teacher to discuss important steps you'll need to take to prepare for enrollment. You can also learn about assisted and self-study options, distance learning, and transition to college opportunities.

The Community Learning Center is open Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon in Boise and Nampa at the following locations:
